Cape Liptrap Folds

Victoria, Australia

Finely laminated siltsones, shales and turbiditic sandstone units of Silurian-Devonian age. These rocks were folded during the Tabberabberan Orogeny (Devonian), with compression in a dominantly E-W direction.

This virtual outcrop was generated by Stefan Vollgger at Monash University, who used the reconstruction to assess the link between folding and fracturing in this deformed multilayer:
